This is a superb piece Danielle! The kind of writing I so look forward to from Tante Belle Cose! And to think I might see the Villa of Papyri soon…Keep up th great work. My classical training wonders what remains to be found; my skepticism of AI is reduced when reading things like this.

Usually stories about AI fill me dread so it really a joy to dig into this. I spent a fair amount of time trying to understand the science, but I just don’t have enough background to fully get it. But that’s what’s so great about this — the computer scientists can do what they do while the classists can do what they do and everything matters.

Extraordinary. Thanks for laying it out so clearly.

I thought I could write this up quickly but I realized how complicated it was when I started trying to explain it for people who don't walk around thinking about Pompeii all day like I do, lol!

Fascinating! I am dying to know what's written in those scrolls!

There’s only a little bit of Epicurus’s writing that’s known and this is probably most of it! This could be the biggest recovery of knowledge from the ancient world since the renaissance in the 1400s.

WOW.

Finally some good news about AI. Fascinating story. I also kind of loved the idea that these ancient Italian texts are finally translated and we find the author talking about capers. Some things never change.

Is that a comment or a request? :)
